Elizabeth Leroy papers, 1885-2003.

The Elizabeth Leroy papers document her daily life and experiences and also her long-time writing career. The primary material is the daily diaries (1925-1930, 1971-2003) and financial diaries (1945-2003) she kept almost from a teenager until just prior to her death. Leroy also authored a large number of short stories and essays, although few were published. Subject matter includes moral essays, mysteries, family and community history, comedy and drama. There is also a small collection of her mother Alice Keller Brown's papers from circa 1887 to 1911. They includes correspondence from family and friends as well as school papers. In addition there is family history information, baby 'books' Leroy wrote for each of her daughters, and topical files on Killdeer and Fargo events.

Elizabeth Brown was born in Dunn County, N.D. where she grew up. She became a teacher and married Walter E. Leroy in 1933. The family moved to Fargo in 1942 where she raised four daughters, and she was employed at various businesses. She was a prolific writer and active in the North Dakota Peaceworkers.
